England vs Pakistan Highlights, 3rd Test Day 1: England Seize Control Against Pakistan

Welcome back for Pakistan's second dig. It is pretty overcast over Edgbaston, and the radar does suggest we could see some rain in about an hour. Jamie Smith will not take the field after sustaining an injury to his left ring finger while keeping yesterday, according to an ECB statement. Looking ahead - The second session saw the clouds roll in, and that meant there was still enough help for the pacers to work with, even with the old cherry. Pakistan are yet to reach 200 in an innings this series, and a stiff challenge awaits them. The English quicks will relish the prospect of bowling in helpful conditions and will be looking to make early inroads into the Pakistan batting unit. The action will resume at 3 pm GMT. No hundred, but plenty of runs - No hundred for England coming into this Test, and none in this innings either. They were reduced to 39/3 early on, but still managed to fight their way to 453 and finish with a lead of 320. Emilio Gay, Harry Brook, Dan Lawrence and Jamie Smith will all feel that a hundred was there for the taking, but none could quite get there. Brook, in particular, might be kicking himself. He was run out trying to steal a quick single, and that felt like a needless way to go, especially with the batting conditions as good as they were. Lower down the order, Ollie Robinson had a bit of fun, as did Jofra Archer, to swell the lead further and frustrate the tourists.

2.41 pm GMT - TEA, DAY 2 - The last England wicket falls right on the stroke of the Tea break, giving the two Pakistan openers a little extra time before they head out for what promises to be a challenging phase. Another one of those innings where Pakistan struggled to wipe out the tail, with the last two wickets adding 81 runs.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! That is the wicket Pakistan were searching for a very long time and it's Mohammad Ali who gets the final wicket of the innings. England have been bowled out with a lead of 320 runs. He scoots wide of the crease once again and angles in, pitching it outside off. Josh Tongue attempts to defend it on his front foot, but the ball shapes away just a shade to take a faint outside edge before it gets into the gloves of Ghazi Ghori behind the stumps.

Extra bounce off the deck! Bashes into the length, just outside off, nipping in sharply. Josh Tongue looks to slap it through cover, but gets nicked off the inside edge and takes a blow on his body.

A tad fuller, just outside off, Josh Tongue lunges forward and pushes it to mid off.

WIDE! A bumper now, over middle and leg. Josh Tongue crouches under it. The lead moves to 320.

On a nagging length, on off, Josh Tongue defends it away.

FOUR! Through the slip cordon! Just behind the good length, pitching it just outside off. Josh Tongue opens the face of the bat to dab it away with soft hands. The ball connects the outer part of the bat and drops short of the second slip fielder. It is Saim Ayub who gets low to his left but fails to field it. The ball races away to deep third for four runs.

A loud shout for LBW from the bowler alone. It is turned down by the umpire. That seemed to be going down. Razaullah is pretty interested, and one can understand why, with him having a five-wicket haul in his sights. Babar Azam has a smile on his face as he signals that it was going down leg. Slanting into the right-hander, on a length. Tongue plays all around it to be hit on the front pad. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes behind point.

Ouch, that is a nasty blow. Angled in at 138 kph, but it looked quicker than that. On a back of a length, on leg. Tongue is beaten for pace and the ball nips back to ping him on the box. Josh drops to his knees in pain but Archer finds the funny side of it.

Full and attacking the sticks. Archer eases it with a straight bat to the left of mid on for a single.

SIX! The crowd is just loving it! Short of a length, on middle and leg. Jofra Archer transfers his weight onto his back foot and looks to pull, but the ball gets big on him, and it flies off a top edge over deep backward square leg for a biggie.

Back of a length, on middle and leg. Jofra Archer pulls it toward the right of backward square leg. Azan Awais fails to collect it for the first time. The ball deflects off toward his right, but he does well to get back and flicks it in just before it touches the boundary cushion. Meanwhile, the batter gets a brace.

We have 10 minutes left for the Tea break, but with the last pair in for England, the session could be extended.
